Service to the community is a cornerstone of scouting ideals.
Service to a fellow scout in need truly embodies the scout spirit.

*** NEWS FINAL ***  The Chair made it on time for graduation!
Brian was able to use the chair to stand up without assistance for
a photo in cap and gown with the Superintendent, Mr. DeNorchia.

Due to an overwhelming response from a lot of very generous people, the
Stand Up For Brian Trust has received enough in donations to secure the
chair without any out-of-pocket for Brian's family!
Donations exceeding the cost of the chair have been placed in the Stand Up
For Brian Trust, as there will always be things that Brian can use to help
"smooth the path" for him.
There are no words adequate to express how grateful Brian's family is to
all who have participated.

STAND UP FOR BRIAN

You can help!!

imagine that your are a growing 14 year-old…
imagine that you rely upon a powered wheelchair to get around…
imagine that you need two people every time you need to stretch your legs to a standing position…

now imagine that a special wheelchair exists which can actually help you rise to a standing position,
WITHOUT ANY ASSISTANCE AT ALL!

Such a chair exists, and that feature is called “sit-to-stand”.  Brian L. has outgrown his existing powered wheelchair and his family’s insurance company has agreed to pay for a new one.  Brian needs to “stand” several times each and every day, but the insurance company considers “sit-to-stand” to be a luxury, not a medical necessity, so they won’t pay for it, and his family will have to.  To Brian, this “luxury” will allow him be more independent. in his everyday routines.

The Boy Scouts of Hillsdale Troop 108 are trying to raise money to help Brian get what he needs to stand by himself . . .
just like the rest of us do!

Buy ‘STAND UP FOR BRIAN’ bracelets for just $3 each and help Brian stand up for himself.

Cerebral palsy
is a condition affecting about five hundred thousand children and adults in the US right now. The word cerebral means having to do with the brain. The word palsy means a weakness or problem in the way a person moves or positions his or her body.

Some people with CP use wheelchairs and others walk with the help of crutches or braces. In some cases, a person’s speech may be affected or the person might not be able to speak at all.  A person with CP has trouble controlling the muscles of the body. Normally, the brain tells the body exactly what to do and when to do it. Depending on what part of the brain is affected, a person with CP might not be able to walk, talk, eat, or play the way most other people do.

All donations go directly to the fund for the new chair.  Please join the companies and scouting organizations listed below, and the countless numbers of people who are “Standing Up For Brian” with their generous donations.
